We strive to make a balanced wine that pairs well with food, that will continue to surprise and interest you with a long layered finish, and that reflects the vineyards where the grapes were grown.
The grapes, from our own vineyard and several other small family vineyards in the Russian River Valley, were harvested by hand in the cool morning air. We fermented with whole berries in separate lots and then aged the wine in French oak barrels, with about 25% new oak.
500 cases made.
An extraordinary diversity is found in Russian River Valley Pinot, because the region offers so much to the vigneron: full ripeness, acidity, heady fruit, rich flavors and evocative aromas. In the midst of such hedonistic opportunity, restraint is a virtue, we believe, and we seek a balanced wine that reflects the hallmarks of Russian River Valley: brightness of fruit, a clean palate, integrated oak, smooth mouthfeel, and fine tannins.
Although each year is different, we generally find much of what we want in terms of bright fruit from other nearby growers and then add some barrels from our Siebert Ranch program to enhance structure and depth. Overall, the wine is balanced, feminine, and graceful. The wine is barreled in French oak for 12 months or more.
